"Rudyard Kipling was a 4:30 miler."

Musings from the brick by a mediocre college runner and wanna-be writer.

The Brick becomes a roach motel

So today was my first full day in Durham for the summer.  I flew in yesterday, but due to the unshakeable headache and the presence of Joshua Brewer, things were a little hectic.  Today, however, was no respite, as Tradelle and I attempted to ensure that the air conditioning actually gets fixed, and the gargantuan American cockroaches are exterminated.  Unfortunately, talking to Dan Radulescu, Romanian absentee landlord extraordinaire, is like making conversation with a raspy rodent, except less eloquent.  Nice guy, but he’s almost incoherent, is several hundred miles away, seems to have read “Slumlords For Dummies” several times through, and likes to do things on the low and the cheap.  So, instead of Orkin, we have a personal friend named ‘Ernest’ dropping a bunch of bug bombs.  If 910 N Greg wasn’t the cheapest place in Durham to live other than a tree in the Duke Forest or a box under an overpass on I-85, I would be seriously reconsidering my choice of residence for next year.  Whatever, time to go enjoy some baked goods and ‘hops’ (said in Fogle voice).
